Alaskan Vacation

Lori Krause • August 10, 2018

Summer means vacations to many, and the Krause family is no exception. We’ve been very fortunate to be able to travel with our friends and family over the years. Of course, we took a lot of photos on those trips too. There are the beautiful, scenic landscapes, mountains and waterfalls, as well as the fun people pictures.

In the summer of 2008 we took an Alaskan Cruise. In my excitement of sharing our plans with a friend, I found out that he and his family were doing the same cruise two weeks before ours. He joked about leaving something, somewhere, in one of the ports to see if I would or could find it when I came through. Sure enough, he did. He left something for me to find at the top of the tram in Juneau.

The Mount Roberts Tramway takes you 1800 feet up from the cruise ship dock in downtown Juneau. The view from the top is just breathtaking! Once at the top you can hike, visit a nature center, watch a video about the Tingit history and culture, as well as eat and shop. There is always a giftshop, isn’t there? Anyway, we take the tram to the top and start looking, but I didn’t know what I was looking for. Just that it was sitting on top of a door frame. There wasn’t anything visible, so I started running my hand along the top of different doors. I still can’t believe that no one asked if they could help or questioned what I was doing, but I FOUND HER! On top of a door frame was a small doll, just as he said!

Even if you aren’t finding random dolls left by friends in distant cities, it’s still important to preserve those pictures and memories. You can print and display those beautiful, scenic landscapes, or make a photo-book and tell the story of those fun people pictures. Just preserve and protect those memories.
